The lotion story

Years ago we had a much loved herd of dairy goats. One of our first goats, Piper a scratch and dent Alpine/Nubian cross from craigslist was an amazing milker. She gave upward of 5 gallosn of milk a day. Even with two teenagers in the house, we were at a loss as to what to do with that much milk. I had a conversation with one of our goat mentors and he mentioned that his mother used to make goat milk soap. Together we made the first batch (what a disaster) and I was hooked. We did farmers markets, peddling our goat milk soaps for several years. One of the most frequent requests was that we make a lotion to pair with our wonderful soaps. Toot (as she does) set about to create a recipe. My only request was that it wasn’t greasy. I wanted something I could apply and get right back to my spinning wheel. With very few tries, she put together the best lotion I’ve even used. We’ve garnered many fans over the years and are pleased that our lotion is well loved across the country. Our business focuses have changed but each time I make this special lotion, it takes me back to those first sweet special goats and how they were such an important phase in establishing our farm.
